Mountain Stream

I wrote and recorded this song for unions and peaceful protests of all stripes. For the union of friends, for communities, for bands and tribes, and for our beloved public servants: teachers, nurses, social workers, infrastructure supporters, civic engineers et al.

In addition I was thinking about the Indigenous treaty reconciliation movement in Canada happening right now in 2018. I have indigenous heritage on both sides of my family and hope for some peace for those family members effected by the atrocities they suffered under their oppressors. I hope that there are corrections to the many issues surrounding all the dishonoured treaties.

Democracy must be decoupled from capitalism and revised to support people over profit. Socialism is our future.

The mountain stream, where have you been?

There was this voice outside my head,
I swear it was coming from over the mountain.
Over the mountain, where the snow and the wind,
And the rain carried a message.

It said come get me,
Emancipation awaits you.
Hey, rise up and get me,
I've been waiting or you.

I felt it in my heart and in my soul,
The words come out, they said,
"You don't have to be afraid anymore."

When I woke up this morning,
I went into the street.
Protest as my right for justice.
Oppressors, beware.

Come on, look out, watch out, here I come to get you.

The mountain stream, where have you been?
